Paris is always the most serious of fashion capitals. Never one for irony or a sense of humour, when Paris does something, it does it with a serious face. That aside, thanks to a few international designers, a few glimmers of fun poked through.

The final new landmark for TheChicGeek's epic #FutureIcons adventure with the new BMW i3 Mr Porter limited-edition, the American Embassy in Nine Elms near Battersea is the new home of the American consulate when it moves from Mayfair. Looking the picture of diplomacy, TheChicGeek is wearing a classic lounge suit and club tie, the umbrella is a nod to the typical English weather.
DIPLOMACY - Designed by Kieran Timberlake, the new cube shaped embassy is exceptionally environmentally friendly and features a security moat.

Quietly, it's electric don't you know, he drove to The Francis Crick Institute just behind The British Library. TheChicGeek has his science head on in this OOTD in a JW Anderson space shirt and Cutler & Gross spectacles. Somebody pass me the plug!
SCIENCE - Named after the man who co-discovered the DNA molecule, The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute, next to St. Pancras station, dedicated to understanding the scientific mechanisms of living things. Its work will help to understand why disease develops and to find new ways to treat, diagnose and prevent illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

TheChicGeek was given the privilege of experiencing BMW’s new limited-edition MRPORTER.COM i3 electric car for his latest series of OOTD. Looking sleek in its navy/black colourway with white highlights, the new BMW i3 X MRPORTER.COM is the city car equivalent of a classic tuxedo.
TheChicGeek thought he’d take a spin around the city and take a first look at the latest crop of buildings springing up in London. Much like the new BMW i3, these buildings will become the future design icons of London.
ART - The first stop was Tate Modern’s new extension, opening this year, housing its video and performance art collection.

Always running around town like there's ants in his pants, TheChicGeek opted for them on his bag, this season, thanks to Paul Smith's new SS16 collection.
The look has a feel of the 80s, the Memphis Group with a dash of Beetlejuice thanks to the shiny fabrics and monotone prints.

There was a time when wallets were a simple choice of black or brown. These were the small leather goods, confined to our inside pockets, and, depending on how much of a frequent spender you were, weren't seen that often. Wallets are essentially for you, which is probably why Paul Smith's pin-up girls proved so popular.
I was given a floral Givenchy wallet last year and while it wouldn't have been something I would have initially chosen, it feels a bit like a one-off and is instantly recognisable as mine. So, this Japanese scene wallet from Thom Browne caught my eye. The polished effect pays homage to traditional Japanese lacquer work while the interior, with it's red, white and blue, is resolutely American. It is ridiculously expensive, but it is nice.

Taking its inspiration from the simple elegance of fine tailoring – and with an eye firmly on the details – this woody and aromatic fragrance is the very embodiment of Paul Smith: effortless, contemporary, surprising and eminently wearable.
Left - Two icons of British style - TheChicGeek & Paul Smith
“Essential is for the man who demands the same things from his fragrance as he does from his clothing,” says Paul Smith. “He’s gentlemanly but contemporary at the same time. He knows who he is and is confident with his sense of style, which is classic with a hint of surprise and a sometimes sense of humour.”
Right - Paul Smith - Essential - EDT - 100ml - £38
A contemporary take on a traditional woody aromatic fragrance Paul Smith Essential opens with a crisp, clean ozonic accord and an invigorating burst of yuzu fruit before a trio of intensely aromatic notes (rosemary, clary sage and lavender) emerge to give Essential its distinct and deliciously herbal character. These, in turn, give way to a warm, masculine and woody base while musk gives Essential an irresistible, sensual edge.
TheChicGeek says, “This is a commercial men's fragrance and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that. Paul Smith wouldn’t have the size of business he has without making wearable clothes that appeal to a large sector of men and the same goes for his fragrances.
Essential is a classic men’s fougére - meaning lavender based - scent which is fresh, clean and wearable. Paul says he always puts patchouli into his scents as it reminds him of unpacking textiles from India because they add patchouli leaves as a type of repellent. Hopefully it won’t have the same effect with this!
Within an increasingly crowded men's fragrance market the majority of men would be happy to accept a gift with Paul Smith’s name on it, just don’t expect this to be that memorable."
