The US 'essentials' brand, Bombas, has launched in the UK. Bombas was founded in 2013 on the discovery that in the US socks are the number one most requested item at homeless shelters. Co-founders, David Heath and Randy Goldberg wanted to help alleviate this basic need, so spent two and a half years researching and developing a technically-superior sock that would provide comfort and durability for all its wearers.
Each and every sock has been designed for its intended purpose; increasing circulation when you’re hot, locking in heat when you’re cold, and keeping you just the right amount of comfortable while you perform, from lightweight yarns and breathable mesh in their performance running range, to reinforced toes and blister tabs in every purpose-performance pair.
Bombas's buy-one, give-one model has donated more than 50 million items to those in need. For the UK, Bombas has partnered with leading UK homelessness charity, St. Mungo’s, to distribute product and to gain further understanding of how best to serve the needs of the UK homeless community beyond product donation.
TheChicGeek says, "This is a similar model to TOMS' original buy one, give one, but by focusing on underwear, a much higher demand product from homeless communities who probably have limited access to laundering facilities, it shouldn't produce a glut of donated product like TOMS' popularity did. Product donation is a great start, but anything that puts a permanent roof over homeless people's heads is much longer term and Bombas' relationship with St. Mungo's should help facilitate this if they are successful in the UK market."
Prices range between £13-£28 for socks, £18-£25 for underwear
